Summer Camp

Camp Albemarle

Last year was a great year at summer camp. Our Presbytery’s camp is located on 30 acres on Bogue Sound, just minutes from Morehead City. Sailing, swimming, basketball, soccer, and a ropes course are some of the exciting activities that await campers. If you are interested, pick up a brochure in the back hall of the sanctuary building.

Ushers and Greeters Needed

Our system of securing ushers and greeters depends on the volunteering of members through our annual Time and Talent Sheet during our fall Stewardship Campaign. Since we have a Session of 12 elders who serve also as Officer In Charge (OIC) once every 12 weeks, we would like 36 people for ushering duties and 12 greeters so that each person serves only one time per quarter (4 times a year). This year there were only 22 people to commit to usher, so each person will be assigned duties 6-7 times this year. We do have enough greeters.

What does an usher do?

Ushers should meet with the OIC for instruction by 10:40 am on Sunday.

Ushers should at all times make the guest feel at home by being courteous and friendly. You are one of the first people a worshiper sees on Sunday morning.

Ushers should be careful to seat Officers and older members of the church close to guests and new members. Encourage them to meet our guests, make them feel at home, and invite them to come again.

The ushers are responsible for taking the morning offering. You proceed to front when congregation stands to sing the Doxology. Ushers send the offering plates down every other row, so that 2 rows are passing a plate at the same time. The usher receives the plate as it arrives at the end of the pew.

The USHERS IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD HAVE A BIG JOB. It is an HONOR and PRIVILEGE to SERVE the Lord in His house in which it is extremely important that you be courteous, friendly, and on your toes at all time.

"I would rather be a door keeper in the house of my God than dwell in tents of wickedness." Psalm 84.10

The ushers also help the officer-in-charge to clean up all litter out of the pews and under the cushions, replace hymnals and Bibles in racks and to close up the church and other buildings.

What does a Greeter do?

The greeters are the first person someone sees upon entering the sanctuary. As you greet worshipers, you are encouraged to ask how they are, offer help to the nursery, etc. They are encouraged to have their family stand and greet with them.

If for some reason you cannot serve on your particular Sunday, it is your responsibility to get someone to take your place and to notify the church office of the substitution.

Call the church office if you would like to serve the Lord in the ministry. It is a great way to see people and get to know our guests.
